Thank you for your interest for a job on our farm. We grow green peas and can offer you a job as pea-picker this season. The season expects to start approximately the 20th of May - and will last for about 10 - 12 weeks until the middle of August. We are about 200 workers here. Most of them are coming from different countries all over Europe. 2. Working place We are living at Fyn, near by a small town, Refsvindinge, between Nyborg and Oerbaek (Ørbæk). If you come by train to the railway station of Nyborg, you can go by bus towards Fåborg (No. 920). 2 – 3 km outside Nyborg you ask the bus driver to stop by a small road on your right, named Eskemosevej. We live at the end of this road. Look at the map. 3. Working conditions We work on different fields belonging to the farm at Eskemosevej, Refsvindinge and on leased fields located about 0 – 12 kilometres from the farm. We also have a few fields on Langeland for the very early production. We work from 5 o’clock in the morning until about noon. The peas are only picked when they are still juicy. Some days we work in the evening too - normally between 5 and 9 o´clok, depending of the sun and the needed amound to be picked The picking will be done 5-6 days a week. Saturday is normally the day off. The work is done no matter the weather, so it is important to bring warm clothes and boots for rainy weather. 4. Working description The pea picking is done in lines and the pickers work in their own speed. Only useful peas will be picked. The picking of the pods must be done very gently, one by one, to avoid marks and wounds on the surface. Also destroying of the plants must be avoided. Sometimes the peas are picked again a few days later. The peas are picked in buckets and without containing leaves, stems or bad peas. Immitately after picking, the peas are carried to the end of the lines and turned into boxes. The peas will be registrated by scanning of a personal bar code given to you at your arrival. If you haven’t picked peas before, you must expect some training in the beginning, to ensure the quickness as well as the quality of the work – but don’t worry, we will show you. The important thing is, that you have the necessary skills for efficient movements of your hands and possess a mentaly personaly drive. 5. Salary The work is piecework and the salary is calculatet from two individual factors. The quality and the amount of the picked peas. Daily spot test from the peas are randomly taken to ensure a high and homogenious picking quality. Only peas with a satisfactory quality according to the test results will be fully payed. The price is ranging from 25 - 50 DKr per bucket, depending on the sort and other picking conditions. Early and smaller sorts of peas are paid 50 Dkr per bucket while the payment of bigger sorts are 25 - 30 Dkr per bucket. The lowest prices are normally given for the easy first time picking. Final payment takes place at your departure. The settling is including the payment for the weekdays but exclusive holiday allowance. On top of the salary you will be paid 12.5 % in holiday money. This will also be paid after signing at the departure. If you need money during the stay it is possible to make payment on account at a minimum of 500 DKr. each time to avoid many small payments. Payment on account takes place once or twice a week, and can be given as soon as you have earned something. 6. Experience with piecework It is important, that you make up your mind, what piecework is about. Some people think that they without any experience can earn a lot of money from the first day they begin. To do that, you need practice, discipline and systematic in your work. Piecework is not necessarily hard work, but rather a question of developing your own abilities to minimize unnecessary movements. Some people are aware of that and learn to earn good money. Other people don’t understand it, and will never learn. Because of that, there are also big differences between the earning of the pickers. It is in your own interest to know - fx. from other kinds of work - if you are qualifyed for piece work (efficient working) before you are comming or maybe even applying for the job. However, we will try to assist you and train you as far as possible, in the beginning to do it the right way. But if it shows up - after some time - that you are not serious working or not fit for piece work in such a way that you will not be able to achieve the Danish minimum wages of about 100 Dkr per working hour - we unfortunately have to discharge you. 7. Further working conditions We need to have a staff of reliable pickers in order to fullfil the daily pea delivery. Everybody have to show up for work, at the samt time, when we are picking - no matter the weather. And everybody have to help each other finishing the work, at the same time - so nobody will be left behind, at the end of the day. If you don’t show up repeatedly or work unregularly in the picking team - we will have to discharge you. Valid absence caused by illness or the like must be reported before or short after beginning of the work for instance by passing a message by a friend. By special occasions, you can have the day off if it is required. You then have to inform about it some time before, to make the planning. 8. Tax conditions Seasonal workers are entitled to a tax deduction of 629 DKr per day presupposing you also have expences for accommodation at your home address during the stay. There is a bottom limit of 5.400 Dkk for the tax deduction. It means that you have no decuction the first 8 - 9 days of work. You have to bring dokumentation for your homeadress (Certificate of Residence) made by the taxation authorities in your home country to achieve the deduction for the living costs. You are also entitled to a tax deduction of 0.92 DKr per kilometre for your travel expenses, presupposing you are coming to work directly from your home country on the basic of our working aggreement. It is a good idea to save your tickets as dokumentation for your travel expences. Everybody pays 8 % tax as labor market contribution, no matter the entitled deduction. At your arrival you must hand over 2 copies of your passport or identity card and the "Certificate of Residence" made out in your home country. If the authorities in your home town do not know this document, you can bring an exampel from this link: "Certificate of Residence" and ask them to fill it in and put on a stamp. You will not be able to start up the work before these documents are handed over - so be carefull to bring them all. At your arrival you also have to fill in a taxation form with a number of informations and sign a contract too. These papers are all together handed over to the registration office in the municipality and you will then receive a tax card valid for the specific work and a personal number (ID-number). We will assist you, so don’t worry! 9. Camp conditions At the farm there is arranged a camping site for tents. There are kitchen-facilities (stoves and refrigerators), washing machine, showers and toilets. In addition there is access to a living room with furniture and television. To use the camp facilities you have to pay 30 DKr per day, as long as you work here. The payment for the camp will be paid by deduction of your final payment at your departure. If you do not show up for work, but only use the camping site for holiday purposes, we will charge you 100 DKr. per day. During your stay you will get a close relation with many of your colleagues. It is therefore important that everybody show consideration and tolerance to each other, and contribute to solve the different problems. Also towards the neighbours it is important to show consideration. A bad behaviour of one person can easily give a wrong impression of the rest of the group. Crime of any kind or annoying behaviour towards your colleagues or the inhabitants of the neighbourhood will cause immediately expulsion. Also dealing and possession of drugs or any other kind of illegal euphoriants will cause immediatly discharge. The existence of the whole camp and the pea farm itselves is vulnerable and depending of the behaviour of the people and their influence on the reputation in the local area. Dogs and other animals are not allowed in the camp - because they might spred fear and diseases and make the camp life unpleasent and uncomfortable for many people. Everybody takes part in the common responsibilities by sharing the practical functions at the camping site. Small teams are made for cleaning up, maintenance etc. to keep the camping site going. 10. Transportation It is a good idea to bring your own means of transportation. It makes you more independent when you are going to the fields and on the time of your own, fx when you are going to the town (3 km and 7 km) or to the beach (10 km). You can also buy a bike by paying about 300 DKr which will be returned if you deliver it back in the same condition. During the season you then have to maintain the bike yourself. Tools and spare parts for the maintainance will be available. If it is necessary common transportation by bus to the fields and sometimes to the town will be arranged. You then have to pay a small amount to keep the bus running. Typically 5 - 10 Dkr. per trip depending of the distance. If you want to go on your own either to Nyborg or Ørbæk (7 km from the camp) you can also go by the ordinary common bus (no. 929). In Nyborg you can go by train or bus to other parts of the country. 11. What to bring For the stay you must bring tent, sleeping bag, cooking gear, working clothes, clothes/boots for rainy weather, plates, set of knife, spoon and fork, leisure-time clothes (incl. swimsuit), flashlight, ground sheet, money for food and other necessities for a start. You must also bring your passport or your identity card and sickness insurance card (E104 or E111) made out in your home country. In order to get a tax card and achieve the tax deduction you have to bring and to make out following documents: * 2 copies of your passport or identity card * Certificate of residence made out in your home country * Signed contract in dublicate (can also be faxed or made out at your arrival) * Taxation form (to fill in at your arrival) 12.
